IT'S A TRAP, avoid the bait!
IT'S A TRAP, avoid the bait!
Is it Entertainment or Entrapment?
We all really should be careful what we watch and listen to, to preserve the quality of our life and living.
Today, everything is legal, everything is okay, or excusable, or explainable. Nothing is sacred anymore, to the point that even the Church is having a hard time determining the boundaries of our beliefs.
And the Western culture that we have copied, especially the booming entertainment industry, is a major weapon in the world’s hand that we must be on guard against.
The most common instruments that are ruining the lives of untold millions these days are mobile phones, television, music and movies. Now, I know that some people feel like it is not anyone’s place to tell others what to watch or listen to, but I believe there has to be a standard raised.
An ugly object loses much of its deformity when we look often upon it; and this is a benevolent law. Our attraction to what we see or hear follows this general law. The more one looks or listens to the same thing, the more appealing it becomes, even when loathed at first glance.
While I do not claim to have full victory over these vices, I believe that each person should set definite personal guideline as to what one should watch and what not to in a progressive manner to avoid being traped.
Again I ask, Is It Entertainment or Entrapment?
A trap is defined by the Webster dictionary as, “a device for catching unsuspecting animals. It captures or kills when the victim falls for the bait attached to it. So there can’t be a trap without baits.” The world's bait is usually disguised as something that appeals to our needs, want or desires. For example we use warms to catch a fish. There is no point using a diamond ring as bait for a fish because it could not bite.
In the same way, we all have key desires, leanings and inclinations, that weak spot. The devil studies us and knows that spot. We should also know it. So each of us have “custom made” lust that is peculiar to us. They are our weaknesses. The challenge is to know them as a prelude to resisting the bait.
Anyone who has turned on their television or radio recently or has attended a movie can tell you two facts:
The media has succeeded in elevating sex to such height that hardly can one drive through the streets, listen to radio, read magazines and newspapers or watch TV without coming across sexually stimulating titles and images. Examples are “we do it better in the air” from a major airline or “I have it with my clothes off” for Yoghurt commercial, while the Internet is something else entirely.
So is it Entertainment or Entrapment?
Well, I posit that much of what is called entertainment is not entertainment at all, but entrapment.
You must avoid the bait. It is a trap.

Anyone who has turned on their television or radio recently or has attended a movie can tell you two facts:
- Nigerians are increasingly caught up in the entertainment culture.
- Entertainment is increasingly vile, profane, obscene, and explicit.
