Do you look down on people?

Some people look down upon someone to make themselves feel better. But, there is often a deep underlying irony that the people you’re making fun of are often a lot happier and better adjusted than you are.

The only time it is okay to look down on anyone is when you're picking them up! And many people need to be picked up, even if they carry on as if all is well with them. Many are at a crossroad, a place of great pain and vulnerability, wondering which way to turn.

Do you know that what makes people lose hope in life and living, and continue in a destructive or wayward mode is not the depth or severity of what they have done? Rather it is the fear or conviction that no one really cares about them.

Your child, parents, uncle, aunt, cousin, niece, nephew, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, boss, colleague, subordinate, best friend etc. may be “completely way off” with that bad attitude to life, and perhaps with full blown consequences. But they need to know that you care, that you love and pray for them, and that you will welcome them home when they realize the need to retrace their steps from that bad habit. Everyone eventually comes to that realization, albeit late in some cases.

Guide them without forcing them to conform, except if their activities are imminently life threatening.

It is much better to be compassionate and understanding of people in their circumstances, and attempt to put yourself in their shoes instead of demonizing them.

Give people room to fail – and a place to return to. Both you and that person would be better for it. Trust me.
