The Distinction between Things and Relationships and it’s impact on Sucide!

This is inspired by Gaur Gopal Das
  • Whether you drive a Kia Picanto or a Mercedes Benz GLS 63 AMG, the road remains the same.
  • Whether you speak on a Tecno or an IPhone X, the person you’re calling remains the same.
  • Whether you’re wearing Swatch watch or a Rolex, the time remains the same.
  • Whether you fly economy or first class, the destination remains the same.
  • We work ourselves up so much, driven by societal measures of success, and what it is to ”be a man” or indeed a woman.
It is not the standard of your living that makes you happy, it is the standard of your life. THINGS give you utility value, but not happiness value, which really is what we seek in the mad rush for things and societal valuation.

Now, don’t get me wrong, if you CAN AFFORD luxuries, go for them. The problem lies in pursuing luxuries to the detriment of the things that truly matter, our values and our RELATIONSHIPS!

Many are rich and “successful” by all standards. Some are even Stars or On Air Personalities, with the “good things of life”, and millions of fans. But a closer look at them will reveal a life of frustration, loneliness, adversity, depression and drugs, as confirmed by recent spate of suicide all over the world.

True happiness and the desire to increase our standard of life is not in things, it is in people, it is in relationships!

If all you have is money, you are the poorest person in the world. If you really want to know how rich you are, drop a tear, and see how many hands come up to wipe that tear.

True happiness and the desire to increase our standard of life is not in things, It is in people. It is in relationships.

Is it not irony that the thing that gives the most fulfilment and joy to the heart, we very conveniently neglect in just running after increasing and enhancing our standard of living?

Now, if you’re depressed, or giving up on life and living, because you’re unable to measure up to people’s expectations, Suicide is not the necessary and natural outcome of depression and adversity. Pick your phone, call a friend, talk to your your parents, family or old folks around. Do all you can to get help and don’t live in denial. Be patient. Sometimes, we have to go through the worst to get the best out of life.

You are special, unique and outstanding, in spite of the adversity and challenges around. God’s Presence is the key to a successful journey of life. When God’s Presence is with one, He restores fully.
