Who is a Real Man?

MAN
The social media and public
discourse in Nigeria, and indeed in most parts of the world is focused on the
prevailing crisis in leadership or lack thereof, not just in government or
politics, but also in business, in education, in the media and in families. These
days, reality doesn’t matter. Image, however does.
Many Men are content to become
shadows without substance, elevating talent and ignoring character. They thrust
themselves forward with pretence, a “pretend” image, trying to convince the
world they are something when they know that they are nothing, hopping somehow
they will strike upon the right path before they are discovered as imposters.
Thankfully, no matter how long
you have gone on the wrong road, it is never too late to turn back.
We can cover up our true nature
by projecting an image we want others to believe, or we can have our nature
changed by renewing our mind, and going on from there to intentionally make
better choices. Life is composed of our choices, constructed by our words and
revealed by our character.
Here are my 5 suggestions for the
one who seeks to be more of a Real Man:-
- Take responsibility for who you are. Then start with little steps
to work on your inner being. Start where you are, not where you want to
be. Don’t despise the days of small beginings.
- Note that character is built as you build a building, one block
upon another block, decision upon decision, line upon line, little upon
little. Build your character back up, no matter how damaged it may be now.
- Be sure, you’re not surrounded by people who reinforce what you
seek to drop. Seek to associate with people with positive values and
demonstrated good character who can help you build the right character.
- Stay focused, and don’t stay down if you miss it. Get back up and
keep walking. Seek an accountability partner or Mentor if necessary.
- Give yourself to serving others. Be selfless.
I assure you that you will be on
your path to becoming more of a real man if you follow this path.
